Hi Emily,
thanks for the extensive update.
Personally, I'd also vote to go ahead as it stands, but of course we'll
have to re-assess as the situation develops.
Chinese attendees and speakers not being able to join, and sponsors
withdrawing, though, that would be a significant blow to the event.
Unfortunately, this is not just about the actual risk and probabilities,
but also about the human perception ...
Also for your consideration, following are the
cancellation fees. We have not yet talked to the hotel though are not confident we are in
a Force Majeure situation yet. There are no travel limitations coming into Seoul.
Sleeping Rooms
75% up to Feb 15 ( $29,965)
100% on or after Feb 16 ($39,953)
FWIW, my cancellation policy on the book (booked via the group rate)
says I can cancel until the 23rd, or 7 days prior to arrival. So we
really shouldn't be on this 100% hook?
Since some of us arrive earlier though, it seems prudent to make the
call by mid-Feb so we don't incur the 100% cancellation fee on the hotel
rooms and give everyone some time to re-arrange if needed.
Regards,
Lars
