sorry for the late notice, but a data loss bug was reported against rgw yesterday in https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/70746. we suspect the regression came from https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/58213 whose reef backport was included in 18.2.5 for https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/67268 the fix in https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/62604 hasn't merged to main yet, but initial testing looks promising for 18.2.5, i think we have two choices: - wait for https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/62604 and its reef backport, or - revert the backport that caused the regression. if we revert, then 18.2.5 will continue to leak tail objects from server-side copies, but at least it won't lose data On Tue, Apr 1, 2025 at 1:40 PM Yuri Weinstein <yweinste@redhat.com> wrote:

Option 2 (revert for now) seems better to me, it's already taken a long time to get this release out. I think we need to start being more strict about time-based releases so we can increase the release cadence. Josh

I managed to look into upgrade-clients:client-upgrade-octopus-reef-reef issue today. It was obscured because a few lines of output generated by src/test/librbd/test_notify.py apparently get buffered by the stream inside of libc and don't make it into teuthology.log at all after the script gets killed. Yuri, this failure can be ignored. I raised a test-only PR [1] with the technical details in the description, you can merge it and cherry pick to reef-release if you are in the mood for rerunning upgrade-clients:client-upgrade-octopus-reef-reef instead of waiving the failure. Zack, is there some option that could be set on the machinery that makes output forwarding to teuthology.log happen to force line buffering so that it behaves as if outputting to a terminal? Yuri, as of when did 18.2.5 include the latest squid branch? If [1] is included in 18.2.5, then we really need [2] merged before release, as it would be blocking Rook.
[1] https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/62095 (merged to squid on March 19) [2] https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/70667
Thanks! Travis
