Hi all, All the best for this new year. Description: Currently, the official Ceph container images include smartmontools 7.2. Problem: - smartctl 7.2 produces invalid JSON with -j for some SAS disks in containers - This breaks Ceph OSD SMART metrics, in the osd logs (debug level 10, https://github.com/ceph/ceph/blob/main/src/osd/OSD.cc#L7511 ):     block_device_get_metrics failed for /dev/sdX  - smartctl 7.3+ fixes this issue Request: Don´t know if it is feasible. Please update the smartmontools package in the official Ceph container images to 7.3 or higher, so that OSD SMART metrics work reliably in containers. Environment tested: - Disk: SEAGATE ST22000NM000E (SAS) - Container: Cephadm Podman / quay.io 19.2.3 - Images 20.x include smartmontools 7.2 too Cheers, Olivier Chaze
