Why not using GitHub actions or a bot for it? It is mostly automated. Unfortunately backporting a commit from master to an older release sometime conflicts and requires manual intervention. And even when it does not conflict, one has to think about the consequences.

Yes, there is a fair amount of PR involved, if that's what you're most interested in you won't be disappointed. All you need to do is register on tracker.ceph.com <http://tracker.ceph.com> and let us know your account name so it can be approved.
