Hi,
I want to try using object storage with java.
Is it possible to set up osds with "only" directories as data destination
(using cephadmin) , instead of whole disks? I have read through much of the
docu but didn't found how to do it (if it's possible).

Whether or not a deployment tool/script will help you I don't know, but
should not be a showstopper to make your own script to create them if need
be.

Thanks for the answer, I hoped that, but I cannot figure out how to configure
it.
There is an option in DriveGroupSpecs which is
data_directories : "A list of strings which should back OSDs"
Is this the right option?
How do I do this with "ceph orch daemon add osd host:...." ?

Now, what I meant, but perhaps didn't write was:
1. Bluestore is default, Filestore was the older version, not default
anymore.
2. Filestore of course used whole drives, partitions or LVM volumes but
could be made to use a dir, if you did some work yourself.
3. ceph orch ... <- from Octopus, meaning recent, meaning that it would not
be a huge shocker if the deprecated non-default filestore type itself in
deprecated non-default mode did not come with a "can I just type 'a b c'
and some other part does it all for me?"
If you want to be 2-3 steps away from recommended, default, recent I think
you will have to step up to the task.
Look up how people did it some 4-5-6 major releases ago, when filestore was
the only option.

ok, I don't like the deprecated way.
I think I will setup a virtual machine to test it, it seems for this case the
better way.

cephadm does not (yet) support Filestore.
