I used to have a tool from hgst/wd to 'convert' drives to 4Kn, but after a mentally challenging interaction with some wd support, I decided to try and use other solutions mentioned on the internet
this seems to produce output similar to the previously used tool sg_format --format --size=4096 /dev/sdd
Anyone have experience with this? This is first time the drives are already in the nodes, so I don't have a power cycle on them. Depending on the drives in question; this may work.
However I would also suggest looking at Seagate's OpenSeachest tooling. There are some very valuable warnings in the docs (summarized here): Any power-loss partway through the reformat may because the drive to become inoperable - sometimes permanent, sometimes recoverable with another successful sg_format call. -- Robin Hugh Johnson Gentoo Linux: Dev, Infra Lead, Foundation Treasurer E-Mail : robbat2@gentoo.org GnuPG FP : 11ACBA4F 4778E3F6 E4EDF38E B27B944E 34884E85 GnuPG FP : 7D0B3CEB E9B85B1F 825BCECF EE05E6F6 A48F6136
