With DO having rejoined the foundation, I suggest asking them for free droplets.

I'm really sorry to ask this at the 11th hour but why/how was AWS
selected? Who is paying the bill (I would think the foundation??)?

I know there have been some smaller cloud providers that have
expressed interest in hosting Ceph infrastructure ... AWS is not one
of those and is easily considered the most expensive.
