Hello, Ceph users, does anybody use Ceph on recently released CentOS 8? Apparently there are no el8 packages neither at download.ceph.com, nor in the native CentOS package tree. I am thinking about upgrading my cluster to C8 (because of other software running on it apart from Ceph). Do el7 packages simply work? Can they be rebuilt using rpmbuild --rebuild? Or is running Ceph on C8 more complicated than that? Hi Jan, I might be wrong but I don't think download.ceph.com provides RPMs that can be consumed using CentOS 8 at the moment. Internally, for testing ceph@master on CentOS8, we use RPMs hosted in chacra. Dimitri who has worked a bit on this topic might have more inputs. is there already a migration approach with minimum downtime for the non-containerized setup when using CephFS? The problem I see would be that after reducing to a single active MDS per rank, upgrading that "in place" would mean machine reinstallation. Would the following approach work? 1. Reinstall a standby MDS (upgrading to CentOS 8 and Octopus), but do not start the actual service yet. 2. Shut down all other MDS of that rank, and start the new MDS on the freshly installed node. This should minimize the downtime to the "failover time" as usual. Should that work without issues? If so, we'll try that out sometime summer next year on a less critical cluster ;-). Cheers, Oliver
